Festive Farewell Ceremony
Over 300 master’s students participated in this year’s Farewell Ceremony in Kårallen.
On Tuesday 12 June students and their families arrived for the celebration, many wearing traditional costumes from all over the world. They mingled outside the Kårallen building on Campus Valla, taking pictures and reminiscing about their time at Linköping University.
“It has been really nice here, particularly the friendly environment for the students. The teachers have been very helpful. It’s really nice to graduate – it’s a dream come true”, said Umer Khalid from Pakistan, graduating from the System-on-Chip master’s programme.
“We learned a lot of things here, most importantly how to teach ourselves. We’ll miss LiU and Sweden”, said Hao Zhang and Tan Jia from China (picture to the left). They both studied Business Administration – Strategy and Management in International Organizations (SMIO).
The ceremony took place in Kårallen where Helen Dannetun, Vice-chancellor of Linköping University, congratulated all graduates in her farewell speech.
“You leave with more knowledge and new skills, new experiences and memories, and also lots of new friends. Just look around – your network is global”, said the Vice-chancellor and encouraged everyone to stay in touch and join the Alumni network.
During the student roll call, all graduates received a personal letter from the Vice-chancellor. The 30 programmes took turns on stage, where they also had their class photos taken.
Jan Knappe from the Science for Sustainable Development master’s programme delivered the valedictory address. He quoted Tolkien’s Bilbo Baggins, “I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve”.
“What I enjoyed most here was the international atmosphere”, said Jan Knappe.
The ceremony ended with a performance by Chorus Lin, the mixed gender choir of Linköping University.
