British citizens exempted from tuition fees after Brexit

A temporary exemption from application fees and tuition fees at institutions of higher education will be introduced for certain British citizens in order to mitigate the consequences if Great Britain leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement.

British citizens within the European Economic Area (EEA) are exempt from application fees and tuition fees for study at institutions of higher education in Sweden. If Great Britain leaves the EU without a withdrawal agreement, British citizens will be subject to the regulations that apply for citizens of third countries. Temporary exemptions from the regulations concerning application fees and tuition fees at institutions of higher education will therefore be introduced for certain British citizens in order to mitigate the consequences of Great Britain leaving.

It was initially suggested that the amendments to ordinances that the government approved should come into force on 30 March 2019. As a consequence of the decision that Brexit will not occur on 29 March, the date on which the regulations come into force has been changed.
