Student union buildings to close
As a consequence of the increased rate of infection in Östergötland and the more stringent advice published on 29 October, the student unions at LiU – LinTek, StuFF and Consensus – have decided to completely suspend all pub, party and dinner activities in the student union buildings.
The approach taken by the student unions until now has been to reconfigure study-social activities, rather than cancel them. This approach was taken against the background of the demanding situation in which students found themselves when study was realigned to take place fully or partially using remote methods, which brought with it restrictions to students’ social life.
As a consequence of the increased rate of infection, it has now been decided to completely suspend all pub, party and dinner activities in the five student union buildings at LiU: Kårallen, Kollektivet, Herrgårn, Trappan and Örat, until 19 November.
“It was an extremely difficult decision to close all evening activities in our student union buildings, and we’re terribly upset about it”, says Annica Norlander, acting managing director of Kårservice, in a press release from the student unions. “At the same time, we must all, now more than ever, act responsibly and do what we can to limit the spread of infection. The choices we make today will affect the society we wake up to tomorrow.”
Kårhusen will remain open during the day until further notice.
