Remote login

Sometimes you may need to access files and programs on LiU's system from home, something you can do graphically through Cendio Thinlinc or over SSH. You can also access the File Storage.

File storage

You can access your files at the file store from home, both home directories and course directories.

Through SFTP you can browse your files, download them and upload new files to the file store. To connect, use any client, such as WinSCP or FileZilla. You connect to ssh.edu.liu.se with your usual login information.

Computer in computer lab on campus

You can connect to computers in LiU's computer rooms and it gives access to its hardware and software. Visit https://rdpklienter.edu.liu.se to connect to a computer.

You need an RDP client to connect. Use the native native of Windows, download Microsoft remote desktop to Mac OS for Linux, for example Remmina.

  • Scheduled lab exercises take precedence over resources. Use the resources under the Självstudier (in Swedish only) heading if you are not going to participate in a scheduled lab.
  • It is important to log out when you are ready to release the resource to someone else.

Thinlinc

Thinlinc is a software for graphical remote login. It looks and works like a regular computer lab computer, but you can log in via your own laptop or computer at home. To use Thinlinc on your own computer, you first need to download and install the client from Cendio.

Connect to the server thinlinc.edu.liu.se, enter your LiU ID and password. The first time you connect, the Thinlinc client will ask if you trust the server, then check if your fingerprint matches one of these:

2048 SHA256:7U5Mjm7VFTM1dbPUpigVKKLu5DM4WPES4R1pad5X4HE (RSA)

256 SHA256:B2OhLxQQLn+5ba3VJjITNqpbjIskERVVxpcIdolO6Cs (ECDSA)

256 SHA256:qOh8gNw1x8LWjYQbFk92jUE4hIvSx+hxDTP5nxvzH9k (ED25519)

256 MD5:a2:d2:15:8d:c6:c8:a4:b3:00:d3:78:0f:df:d7:8f:a2 (ECDSA)

256 MD5:c3:c5:6f:40:f4:c8:ea:ec:0e:8c:76:93:1f:09:0f:f1 (ED25519)

2048 MD5:0f:0d:2c:ee:ca:0d:ab:36:8d:b7:cc:b3:94:68:45:cc (RSA)

If the fingerprints do not match, someone may be listening to your Thinlinc session! If so, contact helpdesk@student.liu.se with a screenshot and information about where and when it happened.

SSH

It is possible to connect to LiU's system also over SSH. Connect to ssh.edu.liu.se. The first time you connect from a new computer, the client should ask if the fingerprint is correct, check that the fingerprint matches one of these:
